Gung Hay Fot Choy! Chinese New Year! “May you enjoy perpetual health!” In the Chinese astrology, each year is represented by an animal. 2019 is the year of the Earth Pig, which is predicted to be a lucky year. The Pig is a representation of diligence, kindness, and generosity.
Every year our family celebrates Chinese new year together. It’s three generations enjoying a wonderful 12 course traditional Chinese meal complete with whole steamed fish, chicken, noodles, all types of vegetables, handing out “Lay see” 🧧 or good luck money in red and gold envelopes to the unmarried, bright colored 🍊 oranges, dried fruit and family.
Loved ones, are remembered with greatest respect, as they are responsible for the present and future good family fortune.
Because everybody has such a busy schedule we usually plan it during the month of February even though New Year’s occurs on February 5.
