On the 6th day of FitMas, Kiana said to me: Are You OVERTRAINING?
Did you know? Rest days are just as important as training. Symptoms of overtraining include: dreading your workouts, lethargy & excessive fatigue, lower effort during your workouts, decreased performance, insomnia, restless sleep, injuries, loss of appetite, higher than normal stress.
To counteract overtraining, take 1-2 all-important rest days. It’s amazing what a difference it makes if you take a full day or two off, get some extra sleep, eat well, drink lots of water, get a massage and most importantly - do NOT feel guilty about not training. If you love lifting weights you know how hard the last one is.
if you are the type of person who must be active even on rest days, cross-train with a different type of sport such as cycling, powerwalking, basically something completely different than your normal weightlifting routine.
After your Rest Day(s), Hit it HARDER when you go back to lifting when you’re fresh, have a positive attitude and added strength!!!
Rest days are important so your muscles and your mind can recover.
Aloha and keep on flexing!
