The other day I was going through some of my DVDs, photos and files and came across the first movie I did. I thought I’d share it with you in case you haven’t seen it! The movie was so much fun! It was my first co-starring role and was opposite Jean Claude Van Damme. And yes, I saw him do the splits! The film was produced by Sony Pictures and was titled, “Universal Soldier:The Return.”
The film was shot on location in Shreveport, LA on a beautiful lake called Caddo Lake. The lake was lined with Spanish Moss trees. Keep in mind that I had only seen Spanish Moss at craft stores such as Michaels, where you can buy little bags of it and add it to planters. The entire lake had 20 foot trees with this beautiful Moss hanging down. Amazing! The entire film crew was about a few hundred people. Many residents rented out their own homes to the crew since there weren’t any ahem, “5 star”hotels nearby…. ba-dump-bump-che.
I had my own trailer on the set. Every morning, the car service would pick me up from my bed and breakfast hotel and drive me to the set. Each day the studio (Sony Pictures) had a little gift in the trailer for me. One day it was a gift basket full of health foods, another day was a Universal Soldier: The Return sweatshirt and hat. My favorite gift was a combat army box with the film logo on it and it was filled with walkie talkies and goodies.
Other movie memorabilia goodies I have from the film are the actual bullets I shot from the movie and my director’s chair that had the film name and “Maggie” my character’s name.
One resident came up to me during our lunch hour and was so memorable. Envision this: he had long hair, super skinny, no front teeth, torn jeans. He was super excited to meet me as he had been watching Kiana’s Flex Appeal for many years on television. He ran up to me and asked, ”Hey Kianer … I am your biggest fan in Shreveport….are these pork rinds bad for you?” (showing me a supersize bag of pork rinds.) Yes, he was serious. I asked, “didn’t you see the low fat pork rinds at the store?” We all laughed and so did he.
Most people are shocked to learn that I did many of my own stunts for the film!
Most people are shocked to learn that I did many of my own stunts for the film including jumping from the speeding wave runner onto a speeding boat while shooting the bad guy with a glock. You will see this in the movie clip.
I got to shoot was a US Smart Gun
It was really fun to take shooting lessons from the same instructors who taught Arnold for his action films! One of the guns I got to shoot was a US Smart Gun – a heat seeking missile launcher that can turn corners to find the heat of the body / target / victim. Cool yet scary to think it really exists.
Another stunt that was so cool was kicking Pro Wrestler, Bill Goldberg, down the stairs and then riding him like a sled down the stairs and then smashing his head through the wall. Only in movies, right! We were laughing since he is about the size of a refrigerator – I felt so small next to him. I remember in between filming, my doing pull ups on his bicep as he had his hands behind his neck.
In my Office, I had many Memorabilia displays done of Kiana’s Flex Appeal, Movies, Television Shows, Magazines, etc. Here is the Universal Soldier display I had made.
I hope you enjoy this movie clip. I do have a few autographed copies of the DVD if you are interested. Stay fit and have fun!
